2022-23 Fordham University Degrees. New York City is home to the prestigious Jesuit institution of higher learning known as Fordham University. Fordham Institution is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit university in the northeastern United States. It was founded in 1841 and received its name from the Fordham area of the Bronx, in which its first campus was situated. Fordham is also the third-oldest university in the state of New York.
John Hughes, who was a coadjutor bishop of New York at the time, established what is now known as St. John’s College. Shortly after its founding, the college was given to the care of the Society of Jesus, and it has since evolved into a Jesuit-affiliated independent school that is governed by a lay board of trustees. John McCloskey, who served as the first president of the institution, would go on to become the first Catholic cardinal in the United States. Jesuit educational values continue to have an impact on Fordham University’s curriculum, despite the fact that the university has been run independently of the church since 1969. In addition, every president of Fordham University since 1846 has been a Jesuit priest. Fordham, which has been around since 1638, is the only Jesuit college or university in New York City.
The Rose Hill campus is located in the Bronx, the Lincoln Center campus is located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and the Westchester campus is located in West Harrison, New York. Together, these three campuses make up Fordham University, which has approximately 15,300 students enrolled from over 65 different countries. Fordham University is made up of ten constituent colleges, four of which are undergraduate and six of which are postgraduate, and is spread across three campuses in southern New York State. In addition to these campuses, the institution also has a center for studying in other countries in London, as well as field offices in Spain and South Africa. The institution confers degrees in more than sixty distinct fields of study.
