Fordham University Degrees 2022-23 Fordham University, a famous Jesuit school of higher learning, is located in New York City. Fordham Institution is the northeastern United States’ oldest Catholic and Jesuit university. It was formed in 1841 and took its name from the Fordham neighborhood of the Bronx, where its first campus was located. Fordham University is also the third-oldest university in New York.
St. John’s College was founded by John Hughes, who was a coadjutor bishop of New York at the time. The institution was donated to the Society of Jesus shortly after its inception, and it has since evolved into a Jesuit-affiliated independent school managed by a lay board of trustees. John McCloskey, the institution’s first president, would go on to become the United States’ first Catholic cardinal. Despite the fact that Fordham University has been managed independently of the church since 1969, Jesuit educational ideas continue to have an impact on its curriculum. Furthermore, since 1846, every president of Fordham University has been a Jesuit priest. Fordham, which has been around since 1638, is New York City’s only Jesuit college or university.
The Rose Hill site is in the Bronx, the Lincoln Center campus is on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and the Westchester campus is in West Harrison, New York. These three campuses comprise Fordham University, which has roughly 15,300 students from over 65 nations enrolled. Fordham University is comprised of ten constituent colleges, four of which are undergraduate and six of which are graduate, and is located on three sites in southern New York State. In addition to these campuses, the university has a study abroad center in London, as well as field offices in Spain and South Africa. The university awards degrees in over sixty different disciplines of study.
