Can Foreign Students Work in Korea While Studying?
International students studying in Korea can obtain D-2 (full study term) or D-4 visas (language study or training activities with a 6-month duration). D-2 and D-4 visa holders can work part-time jobs after receiving approval from their university. They can apply for a part-time work permit at their local immigration office.
The number of hours you can work is determined by your degree type and level of Korean proficiency. Students enrolled in master’s and doctoral programs may work up to 30 hours per week, while those enrolled in associate’s and bachelor’s programs may work 10 to 20 hours per week. Is it possible for foreign students to stay in Korea after they graduate?
Once you have completed your studies, you must convert your visa to a D-10, or job-seeking visa. It is intended for people looking for work in a Korean company or organization. It is also required for those participating in paid internship programs, intellectual property-related activities, and start-up preparation. A D-10 Visa is valid for six months. You can obtain a two-year E-7 or Specific-Job Visa after being hired.
If your job involves academic work or other specialized occupations, you will need an E-1 to E-6 visa. These professions include professor, researcher, technical or foreign language instructor, professional, artist, athlete, or a field authorized by the Minister of Justice.
