How to Restart Your iPhone. When your iPhone lags or freezes, one of the most effective ways to fix it is to restart it. Restarting your iPhone can help it return to a near-default state, and you should do so more frequently. In fact, if you’re having problems with your device, this should be the first thing you try to see if it helps.
The procedure for restarting an iPhone is not the same for all iPhones ever produced. Because the body and design of various iPhone versions have changed, there are minor variances. They come in three different versions. For all of these versions, we describe how to restart your iPhone, so you should be fine.
Start your iPhone X, XR, 11, 12, or 13 again.
To restart your iPhone X, XR, 11, 12 (& Pro, Pro Max), 13 (& Pro, Pro Max), and 14 (& Pro, Pro Max), follow the steps below (& Pro, Pro Max).
The power-off slider will appear if you press and hold any of the volume buttons and the power button together.
Swipe your iPhone’s power-off slider to the right to turn it off.
Wait for the device to turn off for at least 30 seconds.
Hold down the right-hand button until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
Restart your iPhone SE (2nd or 3rd generation), 8, 7, or 6 (if you have one).
Follow the steps below if you’re using an iPhone SE (second or third generation), iPhone 8 (and 8+), iPhone 7, (and 7+), or iPhone 6.
Hold the side button down until you see the power-off slider appear.
Right-click the slider and drag it to the right.
Wait for the device to turn off for at least 30 seconds.
Hold the side button down until the Apple logo appears.
Restart your iPhone SE (1st Gen), 5, or an earlier model.
If you have an iPhone 5 or earlier, please restart it using the instructions below.
Hold the top button down until you see the power-off slider appear.
Right-click the slider and drag it to the right.
Wait for the device to turn off for 30 seconds.
Hold down the top button until the Apple logo appears.
